Doherty’s began in 1830 when James Doherty opened his first butcher’s shop in Derry. His son and grandson continued the business and by 1945 it comprised of a small retail chain owned by Thomas J Doherty.


In that year our late Chairman, James Doherty, joined his father and they began to develop the business expanding into processed beef and pork products.
James Doherty’s sons Seamus, Ian and the late Míchéal took over the management of the firm in the 1970s and 80s and the transition to a sixth generation is now well under way with Seamus Doherty’s sons James and Matthew.

In recent years, we have launched our portable #StreetKitchen and a Delivery Service of Chilled Meat Hampers anywhere in the UK & Ireland.
